Every day, thousands of people across India wait for the one phone call that could change their lives—a call saying that a matching organ has been found.
Sadly, many never receive that call.
The good news is that each one of us has the power to change this. Pledging your organs takes only a few minutes, but the impact can last a lifetime.
Option 1: Pledge While Applying for Your Driving Licence
To promote organ donation awareness, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, has included an option in the driving licence application process for applicants to pledge their organs.
When you apply for a new driving licence or renew an existing one, look for the organ donor declaration in the application form. By selecting this option, you can express your willingness to become an organ donor.
It is a simple step—but one that could one day give hope to someone waiting for a life-saving transplant.
Option 2: Register Through an Official Organ Donation Registry
You can also officially pledge your organs by registering with one of India’s recognised organ donation organizations.
Some of the most trusted platforms include:
- National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) – The national government body that maintains the organ donation registry and promotes organ donation across India. www.notto.moffw.gov.in
- State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organizations (SOTTOs) – State-level organizations that facilitate organ donation and transplantation. for e.g. https://rottosottokem.in/ (this is for Mumbai region)
- MOHAN Foundation – One of India’s leading non-profit organizations dedicated to organ donation awareness and donor registration. https://www.mohanfoundation.org/donorcard.asp
How to Pledge Your Organs
The process is simple:
Step 1: Visit the official website of NOTTO, your respective SOTTO, or the MOHAN Foundation.
Step 2: Complete the online organ donor pledge form with your basic details.
Step 3: Submit the form and download or receive your donor pledge certificate or donor card, if provided.
Step 4: Most importantly, discuss your decision with your family. Let them know why becoming an organ donor matters to you. Their awareness is one of the most important parts of the organ donation process.
Does Pledging Guarantee Organ Donation?
Pledging your organs reflects your wish to become an organ donor. If the situation ever arises, organ donation will take place only after all legal and medical requirements are fulfilled, including confirmation of eligibility and the necessary consent process.
Your pledge is a promise of your intention—a promise that could one day offer hope to many families.
Your Legacy Can Live On
We often measure life by the years we live.
But perhaps it should also be measured by the lives we touch.
By taking just a few minutes to pledge your organs, you are choosing kindness, compassion, and hope. It is one of the most selfless gifts a person can offer.
A signature on a form takes only a moment. The gift of life can last forever.
Pledge today. Talk to your family. Give hope for tomorrow.
